After you have obtained as much information about the well's history and its management logs, it is important to have the well inspected and the water tested by a certified professional.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends testing for bacteria, nitrate/nitrite, and pH, and recommends consulting with experts about the need to test for contaminants of local concern, such as arsenic, lead or radon.This test should be scheduled just prior to having a property listed. Testing requirements vary by state.
